Course Description
This course provides students with an overview of intellectual property (IP) law in the global context, commencing with a survey of patent, copyright and trademarks. We will learn about the multilateral institutions that address IP issues, and study the leading multilateral IP treaties, including the World Trade Organization Agreement on Trade-Related Intellectual Property Rights, the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, and other international agreements that facilitate the protection of IP interests in multiple countries. In addition to studying domestic and international mechanisms for the protection of IPRs, we will review current issues in International IP law and policy. No technical background is required for this course.
