MS - Master of Science

Program Title

Biomedical Engineering

The Master of Science (MS) in Biomedical Engineering program at FIU's Department of Biomedical Engineering provides students with a comprehensive interdisciplinary education blending engineering and scientific principles to tackle diverse challenges in human health and medicine. Emphasizing the application of quantitative engineering techniques to analyze biological systems, the program aims to cultivate innovative thinking and equip students with expertise in key biomedical engineering subfields, such as tissue engineering and biomechanics, bioimaging and sensors, and neurotechnology. With two distinct tracks—Research and Professional—students tailor their educational journey to align with their career aspirations. The Research Track fosters principles of scientific discovery, empowering graduates to lead pioneering research endeavors. The Professional Track integrates project management skills, preparing students to excel in leadership roles within the biomedical industry. Through rigorous coursework and hands-on experiences, graduates emerge poised to address the evolving demands of clinical medicine and drive innovation in biomedical engineering. There are many career opportunities for graduates from the MS program, including mid-to-upper level positions in research and development in biomedical and pharmaceutical industry, product development management in device manufacturing, quality assurance engineering for regulatory affairs (FDA) and engineering standards (NIST), and product sales.
