Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at FIU offers cutting-edge research and advanced studies leading to the PhD in Civil Engineering. The doctoral degree provides specialization to qualified students for the professional practice of or advanced academic research in civil engineering. The student is required to specialize in a defined area of civil engineering but may broaden knowledge through studies combining subject material from different areas of specialization and interdisciplinary related courses. Three main areas of concentration are currently available: 1) Structural, Construction, and Geotechnical Engineering; 2) Environmental and Water Resources Engineering; and 3) Transportation Engineering.
