Undergraduate Certificate in Gender-Based Violence and Prevention

The Undergraduate Certificate in Gender-Based Violence and Prevention offered by the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (CWGS) is a 15-credit course of study designed to offer degree-seeking undergraduate students a comprehensive, interdisciplinary understanding of gender-based violence and the strategies necessary to combat it. Drawing on courses from Women’s and Gender Studies, Political Science, Health Humanities, Anthropology, Criminal Justice, History, Psychology, Social Work, and International Relations, this program prepares students to critically evaluate the root causes and consequences of gender-based violence at both local and global levels. Students who complete this certificate will develop and implement violence prevention strategies, explore legal frameworks, and build peer leadership skills. The certificate in Gender-Based Violence and Prevention is ideal for students aspiring to careers in criminal justice, law, health services, policy, social work, international development, and other fields that require a deep understanding of gender-based violence, innovative prevention strategies, and leadership skills.

CWGS is located in DM 212, Modesto A. Maidique Campus, (305) 348-2408. Students may contact CWGS at the above location, or via email to wstudies@fiu.edu.
