The Juris Doctor (JD) degree program delivers a personalized education with access to “real-world” experiences. The rigorous program prepares students to research, analyze, and communicate legal concepts precisely, think critically, and advocate persuasively. The program consists of both a full-time day division and a part-time evening division. In addition to the core courses offered by nearly all U.S. law schools, the College of Law builds on FIU’s international distinction by incorporating important developments in the globalization of both public and private law, including a required first-year course on international and comparative law. Faculty members are actively engaged in research in their respective areas of expertise and are committed to excellence in both teaching and scholarship. The scholarly mission of the College of Law enriches classroom teaching and learning; contributes to the understanding, development, and reform of the law; and promotes the university’s mission as one of the nation’s leading urban public research institutions.
