The School of Communication offers undergraduate- and graduate-level programs and courses in the areas of public relations, advertising, applied and strategic communications, and communication arts. These curricular offerings are designed to develop students’ skills for effective leadership, critical decision making, and strategic influence through interpersonal and mediated communication. The academic degree programs prepare students for successful careers in organizational communication, advertising, and public relations in diverse communities and a global digital ecosystem. At the graduate-level, programs give students a global perspective in strategic communication, and are prepared to advance in advertising, public relations, and integrated communication careers.
Faculty have varied research interests, including health communication, organizational communication, crisis communication, advertising, and public relations, and their thought leadership cultivates engaging discussions in the classroom and throughout the academic and professional world. Faculty consider advertising and public relations as complementary and overlapping disciplines that apply to all sectors of society including political, organizational, health, science, technology, governmental, corporate, and non-profit, among others.
