There are no tracks, specializations, concentrations, areas of emphasis, or other curricular offerings associated with this program.
There are no majors associated with this program.
Students must complete two full years (four semesters) or equivalent of Chinese language. (First year language courses are 5-credits each, for a total of 10, but 6 first-year credits will be applied to the certificate total). If students test out of some portion of this requirement then they must complete additional credits in studies of Chinese and/or East Asia society and culture. Fourth semester of Chinese may be substituted by a Chinese Studies course, if a language course is not available.
Two courses in Chinese or East Asian area studies (history, religion, economics, international relations, etc.) must be completed.
In addition to the courses listed here, relevant special topics, study abroad credits, area studies or comparative studies courses may also be applied. Students are encouraged to earn credits through study abroad in China or through internships.
Please note: No more than two courses (6 credits) from the BA in Asian Studies degree or minor can be counted towards the certificate.
