Admissions Requirements for the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing
To be admitted to the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing, a student must meet the university's graduate admissions requirements and:
(1) Hold a baccalaureate degree with a 3.0 GPA;
(2) Completed a minimum of nine (9) credits of undergraduate coursework in creative writing; and
(3) Submission of a writing sample.
Admission is based primarily on the strength of the applicant’s submitted writing sample.

Financial Support
Fellowships, teaching assistantships, and tuition remission scholarships are available on a competitive basis.
The MFA in Creative Writing requires 48 credits in studio/academic curriculum, with a minimum in each area as follows:
-- Literature: 15 credits
-- Writing Workshop (both poetry and fiction required: 18 credits
-- Form and Theory: 3 credits
-- Thesis: 6 credits
There is no foreign language requirement. Graduate workshops include short fiction, the novel, memoir, screenwriting, creative non-fiction, and poetry. The program places emphasis on the preparation and completion of a book-length creative thesis of publishable quality. Candidates must pass a final defense/examination.
